What a small-business website costs in Santa Barbara (real numbers)
Goodland Web Co. · Goleta, CA · September 2026
The short version
For a professionally built small-business website around Santa Barbara and Goleta, expect to pay somewhere between $500 and $10,000+ up front, plus $15–75 a month to keep it hosted and maintained. That's an honest range, and where you land in it comes down to three things: who builds it, how much of it there is, and what it has to do.
What the market charges here
- DIY builders (Wix, Squarespace): $20–50/month and your own evenings. The subscription looks cheap; the real price is the twenty hours you spend fighting a template, and a site that looks like a template when you're done. Sometimes that trade is right — we wrote up what upkeep actually costs either way.
- Local freelancers: roughly $1,500–5,000 for a small site, at typical Central Coast rates of $75–150/hour. Quality varies more than price does. The common failure isn't the build — it's year two, when the freelancer has moved on and nobody answers the email about your new hours.
- Santa Barbara agencies: $5,000–25,000+. Real strategy, real polish, and capacity built for companies with marketing departments. A five-page site for a restaurant or a contractor rarely needs what that money buys.
What actually moves the price
Not the town, and not the fanciness of the pitch. Four things:
- Page count and content. Five pages with your story, menu, and contact info is one job. Twenty pages with photography direction is another.
- Custom design vs. template. A site drawn for your business costs more than a theme with your logo pasted in — and looks it.
- Features. Online ordering, booking, payments, member areas — each is real engineering, priced as such anywhere honest.
- Who owns what. The quiet one. Some cheap builds are cheap because you're renting: leave the platform and the site evaporates. Insist on owning your code, design, and content outright — it's in our written terms.
What we charge
Our pricing is public, which is rarer in this business than it should be. Every build is custom-designed, mobile-first, SEO-ready, and launches in about ten days from deposit:
- The Landing — from $500. A single page that gets to the point: who you are, what you do, how to reach you — custom-designed, fast, and found.
- The Local — from $900. A sharp, fast site for a local business that needs to look right and get found: your pages, your story, done properly.
- The Signature — from $2,500. More pages, more design attention, and room for the features a growing business asks for.
- The Flagship — from $8,000. The full custom build — immersive design and API integrations like booking, payments, or a store.
After launch, hosting and upkeep run $15–75/month depending on how much you want done for you — including plans where you send us the edits and never touch a website builder. Every quote is written, itemized, and confirmed before any money moves.
Questions to ask whoever you hire
Whoever builds it — us, a freelancer, an agency — ask these before you sign:
- Do I own the site outright — code, design, and content?
- What does the monthly cost cover after launch, exactly?
- Who makes small edits, how fast, and at what price?
- Is the quote fixed in writing, or an estimate with an hourly meter behind it?
A good answer to all four costs nothing extra. A bad answer to any of them is where the "cheap" site gets expensive.
